I joined livejournal mostly to post my short fics. I like writing longer pieces too, especially plotting out novels, etc, though I have yet to finish one. My writing is largely chaotic, and I tend to have a dark element/surreal feel to it. Lately I've been trying to keep it more stylistic. Basically I want my work to be more coherent.
I still believe psychology ties in closely with writing and is essential to character development, and that events of the past affect the future. How the character is will influence how they act in a given situation. They are as essential to plot as the events themselves. I'm pretty resistant to technical "rules" such as differentiating poem and fiction, and things like sentence fragments or making up words to describe a feeling in sound don't really bother me. I like symbolism, allusions, mythology, the occult. I make plenty of references to the previously mentioned, childhood stories/rhymes, and lyrics. Fun stuff!
I also like to is take common themes and break their stereotype, such as the overused theme of vampires, demons, and the like.
